Since time immemorial, our Coast Salish people have lived on the shores of the Salish Sea and have harvested food and materials from the ocean, rivers, estuaries, and lakes. Because of this deep connection, we hwulmuhw mustimuhw | musteyuhw carry much Indigenous knowledge about the Salish Sea, monitoring the natural cycles of our world and developing knowledge that we use to guide our decisions and manage our resources. This knowledge includes where things grow and live, information about tides and weather, seasonal harvesting knowledge and much more. We have used this knowledge for millennia as a means to survive and thrive in our homeland on the shores of the Salish Sea. Ours is a deep connection with the Salish Sea, it is intertwined with our language, culture, identity, and way of life.
